I used to have an enlarged reproduction of the czech republic 500 korun note on my wall as art. The "reverse" side titled 'Laureate woman' on this page:

The Czechs have some of the best artwork on their money.

"River" reminds me of the Ferengi religious concept of the "the Great River" (from Star Trek Deep Space Nine). The Ferengi religion is based on capitalism and greed taken to excess (and thus allowing Star Trek to comment on certain aspects of humanity / modern times).

The river of economics and trade was described as "millions of worlds, all with too much of one and not enough of the other".

In the episode "Treachery, Faith, and the Great River", as Nog negotiates one barter after another, each seemingly more risky than the last, with the ultimate goal of getting a specific part for a repair, Nog reassures his companions to have faith in the Great River: it will provide.

(The secondary-plot of "Progress" also relies on the Ferengi "River" concept, but may not mention the concept by name.
