Midweek surprise. No, I'm still meditating (thank god for the nifty Typepad future post feature). Here's food for thought about our creative mission in life from Naomi Wolf's book, The Treehouse (previous mention).
Her father believes "everyone is here on earth as an artist; to tell his particular story or sing her irreplaceable song; to leave behind a unique creative signature."
Leonard [her Beat poet father] feels that your medium may be words or music or paint; it could also be the guiding of an organization, the baking of a certain kind of cake, the edging of a garden, the envisioning of a new kind of computer network, or the gesture that brushes the hair away from the forehead of a hurt child. What matters to my father is not whether the creative work is valued in the marketplace; what matters to him is whether or not it is yours. - Naomi Wolf, The Treehouse
Great post Evelyn. I'm still looking to find my creative signature. I know it's composed of a few parts helping people learn, a few parts helping others improve, and some parts of being there to just listen. If I come up with a full one, I'll stop back and post again. Thanks for the insight!
