Hi Evelyn,

Your comment about children in Calcutta and their cameras made me think of Virginia Postrel's marvellous essay titled "Why buy what you don't need? The marginal appeal of aesthetics."

In it she quite convincingly suggests an enhanced and expanded view of the traditional Maslow hierarchy of needs.
