A couple of loose-ends to tie up here:
First, I will be hopefully lying on an idyllic island beach off the coast of Thailand in a few days. I take off a bit later today and won't be back until January 6th. (Nope I don't do Christmas; but that's another story.) I had hoped to add on China and India to this trip as my curiousity about creative and entrepreneurial ability of the two emerging countries is nearly uncontainable. But there's also a lot of exciting things going on in January I absolutely need to prepare for. I will have only limited access to email and thus will only be light posting here at Crossroads Dispatches.
I apologize if we are midstream in an email conversation, but it's now quite probable I'll be very delayed in getting back to you.
In the meantime, you can enjoy the list of my top 24 posts of 2004 over at Todd's APennyFor.com blog. Or at least these are the top 24 posts that I could remember. Since then I've remembered a few other posts that ought to have made the list, but god knows I'm not going to re-read my archives to make sure. There are several other blogger's Top 24 lists over at Top24 of 2004 (and you might want to submit your list).
The Grameen Foundation (I recently wrote of the Grameen Bank) appears to be a non-profit that is effectively building ties with the blogosphere. Within hours of my post, Ken Liffiton of Grameen Foundation USA had sent me a kind email. They were first turned on to blogs via Fred Wilson because he donates the proceeds of his AdSense revenue to the Grameen Foundation. Yvonne DiVita has an excellent interview on her Lip-Sticking blog.
A few conferences I'll be at in January: Speaking at the New Communications Forum, January 26-27 in the wine country north of the San Francisco Bay Area (and again in Paris, February 7-8). They have an extensive line-up of sessions - including a Blog University - all focused on blogs and other participatory media for communications and marketing professionals. Your discount code as a reader is NCFS150. Register online at www.newcommforum.com. In addition, I've submitted a proposal to the BlogBusinessSummit, January 24-25, in Seattle; so there's a good chance I'll be there.
All the group wiki's will be up in January - for the Super Secret Startup biz plan (btw, working name is now Arethos, whaddya think?), the meme-container preaching-to-the-choir paper, the personal innovation advance, and a few other items.
Ross Mayfield once wrote on his blog that he "hires by blog" I thought I'd give that a try: I'm seeking a designer that can help with some Typepad templates for a couple projects beginning in early January. Bonus if you can set up Paypal on Typepad as well. Just send email to crossroadsdispatches -at- gmail [dot] com with "designer" somewhere in the subject line.
I've made a commitment to myself to do more creative writing next year (my passion is for creative non-fiction) and in case you're a writer, I'll be at the Wild Writing Women weekend workshop in San Francisco the weekend of January 29th. I'd also like to thank Yvonne, Jerry, and Colleen for nudging me to do more stories. And the other commitment is to follow the writer's credo in all I do: Show, don't tell. What's your commitment for the coming year?
Happy Holidays!
