Just wanted to write that a social entrepreneur (ok, he's been a regular entrepreneur as well) has won the Commonwealth Club's National Leadership Award.
The purpose of the award is to recognize Silicon Valley leaders who have made their mark in our local community and beyond. Skoll's roles as founder/chairman of the Skoll Foundation, first president of eBay and founder of the eBay Foundation have set him apart as an innovative leader and philanthropist.
The evening including a sneak preview of a new documentary film, "The New Heroes," that highlights the work of social entrepreneurs around the world. A bit more about the film:
Called "The New Heroes," the series will include profiles of social change agents such as Muhammad Yunus, who founded the micro-finance concept that has enabled millions to lift themselves out of poverty; Moses Zulu, who works with hundreds of children orphaned by AIDS in Children's Town in Zambia; and Maria Teresa Leal, who started a high-fashion sewing cooperative in Rio de Janeiro that is respectful of the environment and follows fair labor practices. To capture the stories for the series, award-winning producers Charles Stuart, Bonni Cohen and Carl Byker traveled to Bangladesh, Brazil, Peru, India, Egypt, Thailand, Zambia, Kenya and the United States.
So keep an eye out for the film in your (U.S.) area on public television.
