I apologize for being out of cyberspace for last two weeks. I went away on an amazing strategic retreat (that's what I call it when I am thunk-out -- a little like burn-out -- and I go away to incubate some ideas by not thinking in a beautiful natural setting away from cellphones, email and blogs!) and since I've been back I've been on a roll creatively that I hated to break by plugging back into the interrupt-driven world.
I happened upon all sorts of incredible insights that resulted into a cohesive vision for my business that integrates with everything I value, want to contribute, and where my core unique strengths lie. I'm not ready to spill the beans, but it is centered squarely on creativity and innovation.
I noticed a while back that being always interruptable via email, cellphone, etc. can be a pretty bad thing if you are trying to come up with truly remarkable breakthrough versus ho-hum ideas. I know these so-called productivity tools can easily get me sucked into urgent versus important tasks (referencing Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen Covey). It's probably worthwhile once in a while to take a long break like I did. But more important are micro-breaks -- a set amount of time set aside each day to be totally in tune or "in the flow" (referencing Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi) with your work and totally uninterruptible.
