Gartner Chairman and CEO Michael Fleisher spoke at the Symposium/ITxpo 2004 in San Diego yesterday.
Another person who shares my viewpoint. One can choose to focus on the negatives, spin our wheels, complain and waste time; or, get going, look to capitalize on the changes, and create and grow new opportunities.
"The best way to predict the future is to invent it." - Alan Kay
Fleisher peaking on the future of I.T. and the topic on many I.T. minds -- the "offshoring" trend -- says:
"We have two choices -- bury our heads in the sand or figure out how to ride the next wave of change and turn it into a positive," Fleisher said. "You are in a unique position to lead this charge and ... embrace, control and ultimately own the changes that are underway."Fleisher concluded by saying that a confluence of technological factors, peaking in 2006, will serve as the "engine of the next generation" of growth for the IT industry:
- secure broadband wireless
- always on, always connected mobile devices
- easy access to reliable, cheap computing power
- service oriented architecture
