Romance for marketers - you are SO right. How I see it is what works in connecting people - be it friendship or more - is the same as what works between products and people. It is a seduction process. Products may enjoy loyalty with consumers, or consumers may care little enough about products to be promiscuous across a product category ie they'll drink any wine, they'll try every single malt (our category) - these acts share the person-to-person dynamic 100%
